Slate floor and the great grout haze removal

It's rare you see stone flooring starting in the house and continuing out into the garden, but that's what Nathan found on his visit to a new client. You can see in the images the effect such a design can have, leading the eye and the imagination onto the lawn and expanding your conservatory/living area.

Slate flooring is a Clay derivative, fashioned from Shale and occasionally, Quartz. It is remarkably thin, much like it's compatriot Terracotta and as such is very delicate, so it takes a professional with a light touch to ensure that it isn't broken when cleaning.

Like Terracotta,Slate be used for roofing as well as flooring with options including, black, grey and even green colours. While I'd have favoured the green, the contrast between the black Slate and the Green lawn works so very well here.

Nathan was aware, prior to the job starting that the flooring had a certain level of grout haze. Now, if you're unfamiliar, grout haze is the remnant of the grouting that seals the gaps between the tiles. It can be removed shortly after tiling has cured very easily, but if you forget, for whatever reason, the haze settles and as you can see in the second image below, appears to stain the tile.

After working really rather hard, Nathan applied a layer of Impregnator (no comment), a product which enhances the colour and removes that Matt finish appearance

As you might imagine, the client was very happy with the results and Nathan was too.
